Dear Jacquelien et al
‘Culture is memory’ . . .
the spiritual legacy of the high culture of Ancient Egypt has scarcely
become a part of our own cultural recollection.
It is an object of fascination,
but we do not really comprehend it.’ Jan Assman
I recon the idea of Egyptian culture as
'static and monolithic' is a bit overplayed by early academics.
and is on the way out now.
'Egypt as a source of wisdom'
is not a view you'd find amongst academics. Many contemporary classicists
still
believe that the Greek love of Egyptian wisdom was just a bit of esotericism
- it had no substance. Strangely enough its always been the occultists
who held to these unorthodox views and it looks like they may have
been right about Egypt but for the wrong reasons.
'love and do what you will'
