Maia is an interesting and knowledgable writer who regularly contributes to the Addict-L list in the US. I've crossed swords with her a few times about TCs but generally, her criticisms of TCs relate much more to TCs in the US than to the European model. In many respects I agree with her position on some of it and her book on teen boot-camps seems to have turned up some genuine horror stories. I'd be interested in hearing the views of people in Kethea on this because I know they run a TC for juveniles.
Incidentally, I am aware that no-one on this list knows who is a member and who is not. I suspect that makes it a bit difficult with a relatively quiet list like this. A bit like throwing your thoughts into a black hole!
How would members feel about me circulating a list of members (no e-mail addresses - just names)? Personally, I can see advantages and disadvantages in this. It may, for instance be difficult for TC residents if staff from their TC are also members. I'd like us to have a discussion about it though. When I last looked at the membership list, I was quite surprised by who was NOT on the list!
Let me know what you all think. I'm particularly interested in the thoughts of anyTC residents who are members.
If you feel uncomfortable about posting your opinion to the list, you could mail it to me privately in confidence at:
