True, but plenty of material in both books of shadows and pop Witchcraft books comes from academic sources. For example, at several spells and ideas in Raven Grimassi's _Italian Witchcraft_ came from Alessandro Falassi's _Folklore by the Fireside_ (University of Texas Press, 1975). Not to mention the use of much older academic sources, such as Frazer's _Golden Bough_ or even stuff like Godfrid Storm's _Anglo-Saxon Magic_ (1948).
My point is that there's a constant interplay between a variety of "levels" of culture in the reclamation and re-creation of magical practice, and that academic production is not somehow apart from it.
