In case anyone wants to know what Pagan Reconstructionism is, here's my
understanding...
"Pagan Reconstructionism" is a term that describes the attempt to revive or
reconstruct, as authentically as possible, the religious practices of
ancient, pre-Christian cultures such as the Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Norse,
Celtic, Slavic and Baltic religions. Known as "Recon" for short, this form
of Paganism is succinctly defined by one of its foremost spokespersons, Drew
Campbell, author of "Old Stones, New Temples". Campbell explains that "Pagan
Reconstructionism is a methodology for developing and practicing historical
forms of Paganism in the modern world. It begins from the twin assumptions
that the religious expressions of the ancients were meaningful in
themselves, and that forms of religious practice remain valid across time."
In other words, if the religious methods of our ancestors worked for them,
then they can also work for us. (Weirdly, the above quoted Drew Campbell,
who was incredibly involved in Hellenic Reconstructionism, converted to (or
back to) Christianity several years ago!).
