Searching for /etc/info in the stardev archives uncovers a couple of
mutterings about the information in this directory, and duplications,
but nothing definitive. For what it's worth, it does seem obviously
valuable to have a single registry for these things.
There's a package_info.csv file in there which _does_ have duplicated
information. It would be tidy to lose that.

I most recently had SUN/248, for platform-specific build notes. It
hasn't been updated for a while.
Just by the way (while we're talking about this sort of information),
I still have a cvs.starlink.ac.uk cron job running which generates a
summary of components and `owners', as well as the commits log. See
<http://cvs.starlink.ac.uk/~nxg/>. Is it worth relocating these
somewhere other than ~nxg for the sake of tidiness?
The component information comes from the various componentset.xml
files in the tree.
See you,
Norman
