Folks,
Happy New Year!
I've been trying to build the USSC from CVS on OS X, both so I can
get into a position where I can start looking again at the autoconf
patches (don't worry Tim, I'm still consumed with guilt about that),
and so that I can build the Java tools from scratch, and so address
Mark's Treeview packaging problem (well, I suppose it's actually _my_
Treeview packaging problem, since it appears to be my hobbyhorse).
But I'm a bit stuck, and can't unearth the group wisdom.
I've installed g95 from a g95.sourceforge.net snapshot (2006-01-03),
configured the tree with FC=g95, but I'm getting the `libtool:
compile: unable to infer tagged configuration' problem. Now, I
remember the problem (sometimes at three in the morning, waking
screaming), but also vagely recalled that it had been successfully
addressed. But I can't find the recipe: searching on stardev's
archives for 'libtool g95' and 'libtool fortran' didn't throw up much
wisdom, and SUN/248 is I think somewhat out of date.
What's the status of the USSC and g95? My impression was that g77
would no longer work for... umm... preprocessor reasons (?), that
gfortran wouldn't work as a replacement, but that the g95 folk had
been very responsive and fixed things enough that that was now
usable. I'm guessing that's mistaken, yes? I see that SUN/248 was
last updated a bit more than six months ago -- could it use a second
glance?
By the way, is there an explicit list of what USSC stuff has to be
built before the java stuff will build? Is it just AST? Would it be
worth adding a 'java' target to the top-level Makefile which builds
just the pre-requisites and then cd's to java/source?
See yez,
Norman
