A very happy New Year to everyone.
Here are details of our next meeting.
>From Rusholme with Love
Date: Tuesday 10 January 2006
Time: 6.30 pm
Venue: The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, London EC1
Speaker: Ian Stringer, Barnsley Libraries
Map reference: http://digbig.com/3pmf)
Barnsley's is an innovative approach towards social inclusion. The
authority has, for example, introduced a Dial-a-read service to provide
bus access to libraries for the elderly, created several local history
projects involving prisoners and set up a Russian Club for emigres and
their children.
Ian is their Social Inclusion Officer. He is also an enthusiast for mobile
libraries and an active Committee member of IFLA's Mobile Libraries
Section (he recently gave a paper entitled: 101 things you wanted to know
about mobiles!).
In his talk, Ian will describe several of Barnsley's inclusion projects
and entertain us with his adventures as a 'global mobile librarian'.
In addition to his work for Barnsley Libraries, Ian chairs SINTO's Social
Inclusion Group, is Information Officer for IFLA's Public Libraries
Section and plays an active part in mobile library politics. He has also
written a book on Britain's mobile libraries.
CILIP in London evening meetings are free and open to all with a
professional interest in the topic. Refreshments will be available
afterwards. As space is limited, please let us know if you are coming. It
would be helpful to tell us how you found out about the event. Contact
