Dear all,
In early February a good friend of mine from the US called Seth is
performing a live webcast of his own version of a guitar piece of
mine, plus an hour-long ebay auction of an item called Hour-Long
Broadcast Item. I always find Seth's work very inventive and
involving, and it's a pleasure to be able to tell you about it.

I hope you can tune in!
All the best,
John
details:
'On the 19th of February, 2005, John Lely, composed Thing #6 for Henri
Vaxby. The instructions, for analogue clock and guitar, are as
follows:
"When the second hand of the clock crosses the hour hand, play a note.
When the second hand crosses the minute hand, play a harmonic."
Thing #6 for Henri Vaxby is the sixth in John's series of short
instructions for aesthetic actions. To my knowledge, he has written at
least 13 Things, as well as lots of other things.
By coincidence, on the 19th of February, 2006, Seth Kim-Cohen composed
Six Things #6 for Henri Vaxby by John Lely. The instructions – for
analogue clock, guitar, microphone and multi-track recording device –
call for six five-minute performances of John Lely's Thing #6 for
Henri Vaxby. The first thing is recorded. Then the second thing is
also recorded, while the recording of the first thing is played back.
The third thing is recorded, while the recordings of the first and
second things are played back. You get the idea. By the time the sixth
thing is recorded, it is accompanied by the previous five things.
One slight modification: odd-numbered things (1,3, 5) follow John's
instructions for Thing #6 for Henri Vaxby (notes on the hour hand,
harmonics on the minute hand); while even-numbered things (2, 4, 6)
introduce a flip-flop (harmonics on the hour hand, notes on the minute
hand).'
