Are you by any chance remembering Elizabeth Barthory
(I'm not sure of the spelling) the so-called 'Blood
Countess'of 16th century Romania? She wasn't persian,
not was she married to a Russian, but I think maybe
there was Polish involved somewhere.
There is a portrait of her in one of the Romanian
castles which I saw -- can't remember which. And if
you count Vlad Dracul the Imapaler as a vampire, as
Westerners now do to the fury of the Romanians (he's
one of their national heroes because of his wars
against the Turks), then yes there's a protrait of
him. I've got it as a T-shirt.
