Based in the Department of Civil Engineering an eminent individual is
sought to lead research in transportation studies as part of the Glasgow
Research Partnership (GRP). The person is expected to undertake research
into the development of sustainable and integrated mobility solutions for
surface transportation. Within the overarching framework of sustainable
transportation, this may include using a better understanding of the
interactions between travel and locational decisions to devise and model
the effects of appropriate transport interventions, developing
infrastructure to support sustainable modes of transport, investigating
the health impacts of transport and travel choices, investigating the
impact of new technologies on travel behaviour, using advanced transport
management systems to manage demand and improve network performance or
developing better scheduling, journey planning and simulation methods.
Ideally, the research interests would extend to exploring interactions and
to forging close links with other transportation researchers within the
Glasgow Research Partnership in Engineering (GRP).
The GRP is a major collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow,
Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian and Paisley and will support Scotland's
ambitions in world class engineering and research. It is supported by an
investment of nearly £16 million from the Scottish Funding Council. The
funding will be used to appoint 25 new research staff along with
significant investment in research infrastructure including equipment and
postgraduate training. This will allow the universities to pool experience
and resources for cross-disciplinary research.
