Taking It All In
In Riegrovy Sady (this subtitle's to be read as if in italics!)
As we grin at the straight face of the dark statue
with a fruit juice carton wedged under his arm
there’s a strong scent of flowers, new mown grass,
and while a dog lopes downhill after a Frisbee
we stroll uphill, drink water we’ve carried all day
then sit on a bench near those who sip glasses of beer.
What we all know while we gaze through the gap in the trees
at the cathedral’s floodlit glow beneath a violet sky
is the dry warmth of the breeze, is slowness
and what touches everything, and all of us, is light.
