Hi all. I hope this isn't too inappropriate, but I wanted to let
everyone know about some tools we've developed that we hope you'll
find useful. These tools are part of the VoxBo package, which is an
independent project aimed at making fMRI software interoperable
(funded by the Human Brain Project). Since our software is highly
modular, we thought some of the tools might be independently useful to
SPM users, and with our most recent release, I thought it would be a
good time to let everyone here know about them. I've put an index of
such tools up on our wiki at the long-windedly named:
http://voxbo.org/wiki/index.php/VoxBo_tools_most_likely_to_be_of_use_to_non-VoxBo_users
Each tool page has links to binaries for Linux, OSX, and Cygwin (we'll
build on other architectures if there's demand and we can find a build
box). None of the tools depend on MATLAB or on any other software.
Most of these tools do trivial things like re-orienting data
(vborient) and dumping vital statistics about images (vbi). But some
are a little more elaborate, like our image and time series browser
(vbview), our hacks for interpolating and resampling volumes
(vbinterpolate and resample), and our tool for sorting DICOM files
into directories (vbrename). The wiki documentation is a little
sparse as yet, but at least shows the help text you get when you
invoke each command without arguments.
I hope these tools will be of use, but if you find limitations or bugs
that keep any of them from doing what you'd like, please let me know
and we'll try to come out with a patch as quickly as possible. Also
please let me know if you have questions or comments.

ps due to a glitch with how i set the ftp site up, there are two links
for OSX programs. the first one will work for non-GUI programs, and
the second will work for GUI programs.
pps these programs aren't actually the part of VoxBo aimed at
fostering interoperability, they just happen to interoperate well.
