There is no easy answer to that one. There are many aspects that make
images usable or unusable for VBM-like approaches (contrast,
homogeneity, coverage etc.). Spatial resolution is certainly one of
them, and in that respect, the 2mm through-plane in your images are
somewhat low... but you will only know for sure when you tried. One
thing you could do is look at known differences and see if you can
reliably find them in your dataset (see Good et al for some hints, but
don't bother with the methods section ;)
