There is a cutoff parameter (in mm) that SPM5 uses to determine an appropriate set of basis functions to use. Decreasing the value of this parameter will cause it to use more basis functions. You can see how many were used by loading the sn.mat file and looking at the size of the "Transform" variable (nx x ny x nz x 3).

Subject: [SPM] How to set Number of basis functions (X, Y, Z) in SPM5 ?
Hi,
I wonder where to set set Number of basis functions fro each orientation (X,
Y, Z)in SPM5 when performing a spatial normalization ? In SPM2 i could
modify the defaults, but I cannot find this parameter in SPM5? Can anybody
help ?
Thanks in advance,
Marek
