I figured out where the error was. Somehow in switching over to the new
kernel, someone had changed our fstab to include the forcedirectio
option when mounting our CIFS volume. This prevents files from being
memory mapped on that device. Removing that option and remounting the
drive solved this problem.
Just in case anyone else ever runs into the problem with CIFS.
