Chemical Evolution of the Universe - Faraday Discussion 133
Abbaye de St Jacut de la Mer, Brittany, France, 24-26 April 2006

local information)

bursaries)
Registration is now open for the above conference. Full details
including a provisional programme, call for posters and registration
and accommodation costs are available on the conference website by
downloading the pdf flyer available there. I also enclose some details
below.
*** Please note that the deadline for 'early bird' (reduced rate)
registration, and submission of poster abstracts has been extended to
6 March 2006. However, the number of rooms in the Abbaye is limited,
and these will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served
basis, so you are advised now to register as soon as possible, online
at the above site. Payment can be made via credit card, cheque or bank
transfer.***
I can now confirm that substantial bursaries will be available for
students and recent postdocs (see below for details), at a level of
about 300 to 350 Euros, which if coupled with membership of the RSC or
one of the sponsoring societies (e.g. the Astrophysical Chemistry
Group, http://astrochemistry.bham.ac.uk/joining.htm) would bring the
total cost of the discussion, registration, accommodation and meals,
to as low as 160 - 210 Euros for a recent postdoc, or FREE for
students! However, this offer will only be available until the early
bird deadline, so please encourage your students / postdocs to
register now.
Please note: RSC student members should apply via the RSC scheme
(www.rsc.org/conferences) and any bursary will be 'topped up' to the
same level (please inform us of this when you register). Others should
apply using the form on the conference website at the same time as
registration.
Best regards,
Ian Sims

-------------------------------------------------------
The RSC’s 133rd Faraday Discussion will be held in the beautiful
surroundings of the Abbaye de St Jacut on the Brittany coast near St
Malo, France, 24-26 April 2006.
The meeting will focus on recent astronomical observations of
molecules in various regions and eras of the Universe, and on
describing the processes that determine the chemistry. These processes
include gas phase neutral exchanges and ion-molecule reactions,
surface reactions on dust grains and the radiative processing of dirty
ices.
Areas for discussion will include
- Chemistry in the early Universe and in high redshift galaxies
- The role of chemistry in star-forming regions
- Circumstellar disks and planet formation
- Astrochemistry as the initiator of astrobiology
- Chemistry of comets and asteroids
- Diffuse clouds and diffuse interstellar bands
A provisional programme is available on the conference website with
titles and authors of the papers for discussion.
How it works
Preprints will be issued four weeks in advance of the meeting. The
Discussion will be conducted on the assumption that the papers have
been read in advance and five minutes will be allowed for each
presentation. Most of the time will be devoted to discussion, which is
then submitted for publication in the proceedings which will be
published by the RSC about six months after the conference.
Poster Session – Call for Papers
A poster session and wine reception will be held on the evening of 24
April. Offers of papers for poster presentation are now invited. The
deadline for receipt of abstracts is 24 February 2006. Abstracts
should be sent as a word or pdf attachment to [log in to unmask] with
‘FD133 poster abstract’ as the subject header.
Student Delegates
In order to encourage undergraduate or postgraduate students to attend
the Faraday Discussion, a reduced conference fee (to include a set of
pre-prints but not the final Discussions Volume) is available. This
fee applies to those undertaking a full time course for a recognised
degree or a diploma at a university or equivalent institution. A copy
of the publication may be purchased at less than half price, only for
orders placed at the meeting; application forms will be available
on-site.
Bursaries
Conference bursaries are available to student members of the
sponsoring societies (RSC, RAS, Astrophysical Chemistry Group, SFC,
SFP) and other members of the sponsoring societies in the early stages
of their career (typically within 5 years of completing a first or
postgraduate degree) who do not have support available from their
employer or research grant. To apply for a bursary if you are a member
of the RSC, please download the RSC bursary application form from the
Conferences website (www.rsc.org/conferences). Applicants will be
notified of the outcome of their applications shortly after the
closing date. (Important: Please send in your application form, but do
not submit payment until your bursary has been confirmed). Members of
co-sponsoring societies who wish to apply for a bursary should
download the appropriate form from the Rennes Conference website:
fd133.univ-rennes1.fr. Please note that if accepted for a bursary you
may be asked to share accommodation with other bursary recipients.
