Dear Anisha,
I am myself looking at the problem of wayfinding of locals (taxi drivers
are a good case of wayfinders with high familiarity of the environment),
mostly from the point of view of use of creating spatial mental
representations and their communication.
Some publications that could be interesting to you are available at:
www.geom.unimelb.edu.au/tomko/Publications.html
The link to space syntax is a current work in progress, hopefully
available soon.
