Dear Colleagues,
As you would recall, at the Delft meeting the Steering Committee agreed Istanbul
to be the next venue for the Sixth International Space Syntax Symposium and
myself to be the organizer.
We are ready to send the call for papers and our web site is ready as well
(www.spacesyntaxistanbul.itu.edu.tr). As of today, the web page includes all the
information, forms and instructions necessary to register for the symposium.
The web page will be continuously updated to reflect the latest information
available so that it becomes a useful resource in the period leading to the
symposium as well as after.
For the time being, the issues regarding getting approval from the President of
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture
has been resolved. We have gone through an important process of getting
permissions for sparing certain spaces of the historically significant Taskisla
building of ITU Faculty of Architecture, for use during the symposium.
Some progress has been made in organizing the conference. There will be five
interface sessions bringing together people working more closely with "space
syntax" and people working in related fields of inquiry and design, including
those interested in the morphology of built environment. We will have sessions
on "Architectural Theory", "Computation in Architecture & Urban Space",
"Urban Analysis", "Building Morphology", and "Design Issues". A
promising list of invited speakers is shaping up, and I hope to be able to
confirm and announce the invited speakers latest by the end of the fall 2006.
We prepared an attractive poster indicating the details of the symposium and the
call for papers. We are also arranging for flyers to be produced in a format
giving details of the symposium and the call for papers. If you would like we
can send you digital copies of either one to distribute to your colleagues.
I am sending you the "first call" as an attachment to this mail. Thinking
that the first submissions to be send by the end of September, everyone will
have as much time as possible to work for submission of the abstracts towards
the deadline.
So, all seems to be developing rather well, and we are looking forward to
receiving the best papers ever. By September 2006, we expect to have plenty of
papers to get the refereeing committee busy. Please help to reach the call to
anyone who might be interested.
Needless to say we will very strictly enforce the deadlines mentioned in this
call. I think it is fair to all that we should get the best possible quality of
conference proceedings, so that our efforts get the best possible dissemination
at and after the conference. This means that we will not have much flexibility
with late submissions. Also, remember that we will also be refereeing full
papers as well of abstracts, to avoid situations where abstracts do not give an
acuurate impression of the work.
You can direct any inquires about the symposium to our web site or to myself.
Feel free to email me with any suggestions for additional events that you would
like incorporated and please let me know if you have any comments,
I am looking forward to receiving many exciting contributions to the symposium
and to seeing all of you in Istanbul for a most exciting event.
With warm regards,
Ayse Sema Kubat
Chairperson of 6th International Space Syntax Symposium
