** apologies if your institution already subscribes to the Statistical
Accounts of Scotland service**

Dear XXXXX

The two Statistical Accounts of Scotland, covering the 1790s and the
1830s, are among the best contemporary reports of life during the agricultural
and industrial revolutions in Europe. Learn more about the area in which you or
your ancestors have lived. Based largely on information supplied by each parish
church minister, the original (first) Statistical Account and the New (second)
Statistical Account provide a rich record of a wide variety of topics: wealth,
class and poverty; climate, agriculture, fishing and wildlife; population,
schools, and the moral health of the people. Key features of the service
include:

The Statistical Accounts of Scotland subscription service offers sophisticated
search, display and download features. For a full list of key features please
see - http://edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/access/sub-service.html

Over the last year there have been related resources added to the Statistical
Accounts service:

Sir John Sinclair. Analysis of the Statistical Account of Scotland.
London, 1826.

Census for the Parish of Stow, 1801. with introduction and index provided by the
National Archives of Scotland The Statistical Account and the Stages of Society:

An Introduction to Sir John Sinclair's Specimens of Statistical Reports (1793),
by Richard B. Sher.

John Sinclair. Specimens of Statistical Reports. London, 1793. (To be added
shortly).

The annual subscription period runs from 1 August to 31 July and the fees
for 06/07 remained unchanged. The Statistical Accounts of Scotland home page
can be browsed at - http://edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/ and a subscription form
has been attached to this email.

Institutional subscription fees can be found on our web pages at -
http://edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/access/prices.html
and we would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards
Helen
