Decision Making Training Course
New ways of working in libraries mean more staff becoming actively involved in making important decisions that have a direct effect on the quality of service. This course is designed to offer people the opportunity to consider how they make important decisions and to experience a range of creative tools to support more effective decision making. Through a variety of fun but purposeful exercises the workshop will introduce participants to the parts of the decision making process, from problem definition, and analysis, to developing effective solutions. It will also focus on team decision making and creativity.

Content: The importance of effective decision making
The 5 Cs - a specific working framework that participants can use to effectively develop their decisions
Team decision making task
Using cause and effect diagrams to support problem analysis and decision making
Using creative thinking tools to help you and others 'think out of the box'
Using provocations to challenge paradigms and assumptions
Using mind maps and starbursts to generate new ideas
Personal action planning
Cost: SALCTG members £100, non-members £150, including lunch and refreshments. Cancellations within one week of the event will be charged in full. Substitutons are acceptable.
Who should attend:
Established staff who are required to take greater responsibility for resources
New professionals who are working towards or have recently gained Chartership. A certificate of attendance will be provided for use in portfolios.
Senior assistants moving into their first management role.
