The Scottish Library and Information Council is pleased to announce that
bookings are open for “Sharing Vision, Planning Practice” which promi=ses to
be the most significant gathering of FE library and information
professionals this year. Free to SLIC FE member organisations, the
Conference which takes place on 27th November will bring together though=t
leaders from across the UK in the field of knowledge management who offerinsight, vision and comment on current drivers for change influencing
strategy and policy across the sector.
The event is to be held in the Bridge, John Wheatley College, Glasgow andIan Graham, Principal of John Wheatley College will give the keynote addr=ess
on ‘Leading by example: new service delivery models for libraries and
learning centres’
What is the status of quality and self evaluation initiatives in colleges=?
Since the SLIC supported SFC funded Library Toolkit was launched in 2003 =to
coincide with the revised HMIE framework, it has been taken up and adapte=d
for use throughout Wales and Andrew Eynon, Chair of the UK Colleges Furth=er
and Higher Education Group (COFHE) will describe its application througho=ut
the Welsh FE sector. But what of the Toolkit’s future in Scotland? Co=lin
Buchanan, Lead Specialist in Quality Enhancement at SFEU will discuss thestatus of the toolkit in the context of the work of the Quality Improveme=nt
Forum.
The SLIC partnership approach will be very much in evidence when Craig
Green, Information and Learning Services Manager at John Wheatley College=,
introduces the JISC funded MANDATE (Managing Digital Assets in Tertiary
Education) project which features a downloadable toolkit to support the
creation and implementation of digital asset management systems in FE.
The Conference will also feature the Scottish launch of the Cultural
Diversity Toolkit, an initiative being led by west Lothian College and
funded through SLIC Innovation and Development Programme.
Finally Martyn Wade, the National Librarian, will discuss how the Nationa=l
Library of Scotland is breaking down the walls and opening up its service=s
to the wider learning community. He will explore whether there are
opportunities for the NLS to work more closely with further education par=tners.
