Marc,
There is much British and some American railway slang in 'The Railway
Dictionary' by Alan A. Jackson. The 4th edition of this book has just been
published by Sutton Publishing; details on its website

Subject: railway slang
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a former SNCF railway employee and now a researcher at Nancy
university. I would like to write a paper on railway "slang" or "arguot",
the vocabulary that nobody else understands...
I would be most gateful if you could help me in my research.
I am looking for words invented by railway staff, those that have
disappeared (may be due to the electrification) and those that are still
used.
I would be interested in having examples of words according to staff
category or to geographical location.
If anybody is interested in
this subject, give information on French railwaymen's terminoly.
Thank you very much for your help.
Yours sincerely
