Hi all,
I imagine there are a number of fans of popular science books on the list,
so you may be interested in a public event the Royal Institution is
organising in association with the Science Communication Group at Imperial
College. Jon Turney posted to the list not long ago about the Science
Books Blog he's started in connection with this event
(sciencebooksblog.blogspot.com). More info about the event below!

The best science books ever
19 October 2006, 6.30pm
What’s the best scientific read you’ve ever had? Was it a book crammed
with fresh new ideas, or maybe a story of discovery you just couldn’t put
down? In this event we’re bringing together a panel to debate just that
topic. Eminent biologist and author Armand Leroi, former Guardian science
editor Tim Radford and science journalist and ex-New Scientist reviews
editor Maggie McDonald will all put forward their candidates for the
biggest read in science. But in true popular fashion, it’s the audience
who will decide the eventual winner. So join us to celebrate the most
exciting, influential and inspirational selections on the science
bookshelf.
Venue: G16, Sir Alexander Fleming Building, Imperial College, London SW7
2AZ
Tickets cost £8, £5 concessions (including students). For more information
and to book, call the Royal Institution's Events Team on 020 7409 2992 or
go to http://www.rigb.org/rimain/calendar/detail.jsp?&id=287.
