Invitation to tender
Evaluation of Contemporary Science CPD programme
RCUK has commissioned the national network of Science Learning Centres to
deliver a pilot programme of continuing professional development courses for
secondary teachers. The pilot will inform RCUK’s plans for future programmes
in this area and a robust, independent evaluation is therefore required.
The courses aim to provide teachers with updates on contemporary research so
they can develop their own knowledge and understanding, and incorporate
current research into their teaching confidently. Courses will bring
teachers and researchers together, and explore how best to use cutting edge
research to inspire young people’s interest in science. The new GCSE
programme of study will provide a curriculum focus for the courses.
The pilot comprises a one day course in each of the following regions: South
West, Yorkshire and the Humber, East of England and London. Courses will be
run in the summer term, with all courses completed by 31 July 2006.
Evaluators are required to:
· construct a common evaluation framework to use across the four CPD
courses;
· attend and evaluate each of the four courses;
· conduct some follow-up evaluation with participants;
· deliver an evaluation report by 31 August 2006.
Note that timings will not allow the evaluation to cover classroom practice.
Interested parties should apply by letter or email outlining their
evaluation approach and proposed budget by 25 April 2006. Selection will be
made by 26 April 2006.
The national network of Science Learning Centres will be holding a planning
workshop for the courses at the National Science Learning Centre in York on
28 April 2006. Evaluators would be welcome to attend this event but it is
not compulsory.
