The Large Hadron Collider, starting up at CERN in 2007, will be one of
biggest scientific experiments ever undertaken. It will recreate the
condition of the Big Bang, and give new results on particles, forces,
extra dimensions, the origin of mass, and new symmetries of the
Universe. The UK is playing a strong role.
The Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council through its Science
& Society remit intends to have a major exciting broad programme of
public engagement. We need an experienced senior communications manager
to lead that programme and drive it through. You will be a confident
energetic self-starter with a science background, project management
experience, and ability to work with researchers, comms contractors,
science centres etc. Activities include exhibitions, events, Website,
focus groups, public debates, evaluation work, and education contracts,
plus liaising with PPARC's press and schools' officers.
The post is offered as a 2-year fixed-term consultancy. We'll
consider full or part-time (3-5 days/week) working at our Swindon HQ at
least 1 day/week. Remuneration competitive and to be negotiated.
Closing date 19 April, interviews 11 May.
