Position Announcement: Communications Writer
-Tasks and responsibilities
The Communications Writer will provide support to the Director of
Communications and his team, writing press releases, sourcing and writing
feature stories, writing and editing newsletters, brochures, web content
and presentations on a broad range of science-related topics for general
audiences as well as for more technically-minded audiences. You will
liaise with science researchers and others in the European Science
Foundation’s (ESF) wide community across Europe, internally and
externally, to create ideas for communication materials.
To succeed in this role, you will need to have excellent written and oral
communications skills, be accustomed to working to tight deadlines and be
able to deal confidently with journalists, scientists and internal
stakeholders alike.
This new position would suit a journalist, science writer or press officer
who is looking to build on their experience by working in a fast-paced
international environment.
-Candidate Profile
To be considered for this position, the requirements you must demonstrate
are:
• Journalism or business writing background, particularly with a
science and technology perspective.
• Ability to create quality content in a fast-paced working
environment, often under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs (eg, Word, Excel,
FrontPage)
• Exposure to working in a multi-cultural, multi-national
environment.
• Experience within a scientific or academic organisation would be
an asset.
• Native English speaker plus fluency in at least one other European
language.
-Conditions
• This position, to be based at ESF Headquarters in Strasbourg,
France, is initially for an 18-month period, with the possibility of
prolongation.
• The compensation level will be based on experience and
qualifications of the successful candidate and will follow ESF terms and
conditions.
