Job Vacancy - Senior Manager, Public Engagement, PPARC
Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council, Swindon.
There is a vacancy at PPARC's Band3 for a Senior Manager in the Science and Society programme. PPARC funds research, education, knowledge transfer and public engagement in astronomy, space science, solar system science and high energy particle physics, with a total budget around £330M pa. The main aims of the S&S programme are: to stimulate public interest in the current research programmes and facilities; to use the excitement of these science and technology areas to engage young people with STEM subjects; and to support & encourage researchers to engage with the public and discuss issues with non-specialists.
The purpose of the post is to provide management for the whole of the S&S programme, and especially to oversee linkage of PPARC science and technology with the formal and informal education sectors. There are opportunities for the postholder to contribute creative ideas to this programme.
PPARC will merge with CCLRC in April 2007 to form the Science and Technology Facilities Council, but the post will remain fundamentally the same (though covering a wider range of exciting science & technology!) and will continue to be based at the Swindon HQ.
Salary range GBP29,042 to 34,557. Full details and how to apply are at www.pparc.ac.uk/Ap/Rc/Recruitment.asp
Closing date 5 January 2007; interviews on 29 January 2007.
Robin Clegg, PPARC
