Curatorial Assistant (6-month contract)

The Wellcome Trust is one of the world's largest biomedical research charities and its mission is to foster and promote research with the aim of improving human and animal health.
The Trust's Medicine, Society and History Division has an opportunity for an experienced Curatorial Assistant to assist in the research, interpretation and delivery of specific displays within permanent exhibitions to be shown in our new visitor centre, Wellcome Collection.
The role will involve research, negotiation and administration of loans and purchases for Wellcome Trust permanent exhibitions, coordinating the production of text, captions and photographic material for exhibitions and liaising with other staff members on all aspects of the presentation of exhibitions and accompanying activities.
You will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, ideally with a Museum Studies diploma or similar. You will have 1-2 years experience of being responsible for researching and coordinating exhibitions within a museum or gallery environment.
You will also have:
§ Experience of working on a number of different projects simultaneously
§ An understanding of conservation regulations
§ An interest in the history of art or the history of science and in contemporary developments in the field
§ An understanding of exhibition finances and financial processes
§ A good understanding of print design and production processes.
Ideally, you will have an understanding of the relationship between exhibitions and other gallery/museum activities, and have previous involvement with the production of exhibition-based printed material.
Industrious, careful and accurate, you will have excellent organisational skills and an ability to learn quickly. Self-reliance and self-motivation are important, along with the ability to work both co-operatively and on your own initiative. You need to be willing to work unusual hours on occasions and have good written and verbal skills. Your ability to contribute to a team whilst working on exhibitions is crucial.
