Sorry - should have added that I know if you are interested in stuff
in the last few years the SciMuMeMo will be a bit old, but I thought
it'd be valuable background info on the UK press
There is an overview of the results here:
Gregory, J and Miller, S (1998) Science in Public: communication,
culture and credibility (Plenum: New York) pages 118-120
Also, at our postgrad sci com'n conference in May we had a paper by
Rikke Schmidt Kjaeraard comparing Brit and Danish newspaper's
reactions to South Korean cloning which might be of interest to you,
although its less about explaning the gene and more ethical/ policy
debate around genetics. The page for the conference is here:
http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/humanities/sciencecommunicationgroup/postgraduateconference/2006conference
but I dont have any other details other than her name and paper title to pass on
have you tried asking the question on a more academic listserv like Eurograd?

I am a PhD student in Oslo about to undertake a framing analysis of how the Norwegian and British media communicate the concept of what a gene is to the general public. I would like to search British newspaper archives for gene-related articles from the last 3-4 years. I have heard of Nexis Lexis Academic but my university doesn't have it so I was wondering what other options there are (or maybe i can access it via something else?).
