Salary range: €75,496 - €97,491 / €83,187 - €111,215 per annum.
From its opening in summer 2007 the Science Gallery will be an innovative centre for public engagement with
science. Housed in an iconic new building in the heart of Dublin, this flagship project will probe big scientific
issues through an ever-changing programme of exhibitions. No two days will be the same. Shows, events, comedy, music, drama, discussion will all help to open channels of science communication across the community. The Gallery will nurture an awareness in adults and teenagers of key issues in science and technology, and their impact on our changing world.
The Science Gallery has ambitious aims:
¦ Stimulate a deeper appreciation of science: the Gallery will help create a culture of scientific awareness and debate among the general public, nurturing a better understanding of important scientific issues.
¦ Inspire the next generation: the Gallery will become a forum where young people are motivated to pursue their interests in science, education, work and throughout their lives.
¦ Open paths to science: the Gallery will become a gateway for information on the varied career opportunities available in science, engineering, medicine and biotechnology.
¦ Showcase a science-based economy: the Gallery will highlight national and international achievements in science and technology, and their critical importance to Ireland's economic future.
The ideal candidate will:
¦ Possess excellent scientific and business/financial qualifications
¦ Demonstrate a capacity for leadership, innovation and strategic planning
¦ Have a successful track record in the management of a gallery / museum/ science centre or related organisation
¦ Implement the strategic plan to finance, construct and fit-out the Science Gallery
¦ Deliver and evaluate a changing program of innovative thematic exhibitions and related events
¦ Oversee education and outreach programmes, staffing, marketing and public relations
¦ Forge relationships with existing science communication and outreach activities both nationally and worldwide
¦ Manage relationships with all key stakeholders, including Trinity College, appropriate government agencies and
industry partners.
