The Centre for Transcultural Research and Media Practice (TRMP), Dublin Institute of Technology,
is dedicated to the enrichment of scholarly and public understandings of transnational migration,
globalisation and transcultural relations and histories. It has pioneered innovative interdisciplinary
links between the fields of media production and migration studies, advocating the use of audio
and visual media in social research. The Centre will shortly offer the first Doctoral Programme in
lens-based research practice in Ireland, combining media production with cultural/visual
anthropological inquiry. The Faculty of Applied Arts wishes to appoint an Assistant Lecturer in
Visual Cultural Studies with an interest/background in Media Practice to play a full and active role
in the development and delivery of the Centre’s Doctoral Programme. S/he will be required to
undertake research and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of MPhil/PhD research
students and to contribute to the strategic expansion of the Centre’s aims and objectives. The
appointee will have proven research ability in one or more of the following fields: visual culture,
cultural studies, visual anthropology or media studies, with a scholarly focus on the subject areas
of migration, transcultural identity formations, human rights, or other related themes.
