=======================================

Maître de Conférences in Oral English, University of Paris-7-Denis-Diderot,
France Date: 9 October 2006 From: A. Diana and I. Trevian
<[log in to unmask]>, <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Maître
de Conférences in Oral English, University of Paris 7

University: Paris 7 - Denis Diderot
Department: UFR d'Etudes anglophones Charles-V (Dept of English)
Web Address: http://www.ufr-anglais.univ-paris7.fr/
Position: Maître de Conférences (Associate professor)
Teaching and Research field: Oral English, Phonetics, Phonology
Required Languages: English/French

Job Description: A Maître de Conférences position in Oral English will be
available in the next academic year (starting September 2007) in the
English Department of the University of Paris 7-Denis-Diderot in the city
of Paris. Further to a successful 12-month probationary period, the
recruited candidate will obtain permanent tenure in the French Higher
Education System. Gross income will amount to approximately 25,000 euros
per year. Candidates for the job should have completed a PhD in the field
of English phonetics and/or phonology and preferably be experienced in the
teaching of oral English. A solid knowledge of French is also expected. The
recruited candidate will teach practical and theoretical phonetics to
undergraduate students (teaching load is 192 hours a year). He/she may
teach oral English to students preparing for the CAPES or Agrégation
(national competitive exams to become secondary school teachers).
Appropriate contribution to administrative tasks is also expected.

Research: Candidates for the job should have phonetics and/or phonology as
their main line of research

How to apply: In France, recruitment procedures for full-tenure academic
personnel follow two compulsory stages:
 (1) A "qualification procedure" with the CNU (National Council for
Universities) to which candidates must submit two copies of their doctorate
(or foreign equivalent), their 'rapports de soutenance de thèse' (or
recommendations from doctorate supervisors in countries where such reports
are not available) and possibly of their research papers and academic
publications. In order to obtain 'qualification' files, candidates should
first apply online on the website of the Ministry of Education and Research
('Ministère de l'Education et de la Recherche',
http://www.education.gouv.fr/personnel/enseignant_superieur/enseignant_chercheur/default.htm
deadline for application: 16 October 2006, 5 p.m., Paris time). NB: the
Doctorat (PhD or equivalent) must be defended by December 14th 2006.

Foreign candidates are recommended to produce certified translations of the
administrative documents (birth certificates, etc) requested at all stages
of the recruitment procedure Further to their application, candidates will
receive the names and addresses of two referees, to whom the full
application file is to be submitted. Candidates whose application has been
successful will be officially notified in February 2007. 'Qualified'
candidates for teaching/research positions in French universities will then
be eligible to apply for any of the 'Maître de Conférences' positions
advertised for the year 2007.

(2) A formal application to relevant French Universities (in this case
Paris-7, section 11), once academic posts have been advertised on the
website of the Ministry of Education and Research (expected period:
February 2007). Applicants who are short-listed will be called for an
interview (generally in early May) and soon informed of the University's
decision. The closing date for applications is generally in late
March/early April. Further to their interviews, short-listed candidates are
generally ranked. Should a candidate be ranked first for several positions
in different University Departments, they will be asked to state their
preference. In this way candidates that have not been ranked first may
still obtain the job if those ranked above them have elected to work in
another University.

All relevant information on qualification and application procedures can be
found on the Ministry's website:
http://www.education.gouv.fr/personnel/enseignant_superieur/enseignant_chercheur/default.htm
