Please circulate to all interested:
This is advance notice that an RCUK Academic Fellowship in
Sociophonetics at the Department of English Language, University of
Glasgow is due to be advertised during the course of this week (week
beginning 19 June) at jobs.ac.uk and on the Linguist jobs listing.
Please note that the closing date for applications is likely to be
very tight (30 June).
I would be grateful if you could ask all who might be interested in
this post to look out for the advertisement, and/or to contact me
(Jane Stuart-Smith: [log in to unmask]), so that I
can pass on relevant details as soon as they are available. Only the
following brief details can be given now:
UNIVERSITY of GLASGOW DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Research Councils UK Academic Fellowship
The Department of English Language invites applications for an RCUK
Academic Fellowship in Sociophonetics. The post is available from 1
October 2006.
On satisfactory completion of a period of probation the successful
candidate will be appointed to a permanent Lectureship in English
Language at the end of the period of RCUK support.
Applicants should have a completed PhD relevant to high-quality
research in Phonetics, Sociophonetics and Sociolinguistics.
The Department of English Language is a friendly department with
particular strengths in sociolinguistics and phonetics. These are
being developed with the recent appointment of a new colleague in
Sociolinguistics (Dr Jennifer Smith), and now with the RCUK position
in Sociophonetics. The Department has a well-equipped phonetics
laboratory which is currently being upgraded. We have a lively
postgraduate body of around 30, including two ESRC-funded doctoral
students in sociolinguistics/sociophonetics. The Department was rated
5* in the 2001 RAE, and is a recipient of major grants from the ESRC,
AHRC and Leverhulme Trust.
Apologies if you have received this email from another source.
With thanks,
Jane Stuart-Smith
