There have always been direct entry midwifery courses and there still are.
Although there are no direct entry OH courses (in theory), there are in
practice. If "direct entry" means going straight into training without
general experience then this is an established route into OH nursing.
It is perfectly possible to do a degree in nursing and immediately proceed
to a full-time Masters in OH. So it can take as little as four years (and
very little clinical experience) to proceed from no nursing training to
having a registerable post-grad OH qualification in less than four years.
We may feel a natural concern about "direct entry" but long service and
wide general experience will never be a substitute for understanding and
aptitude.
