As I understand it Ann Lowis retired some time ago and with that we lost
the only OH professorship. This emphasises the point that new talent is
not coming forward and taking up prominent positions in nursing leadership.
There are lots of current professors of nursing and lots of OH nurses but
nobody I am aware of features in both categories. OH nurses are eligible
for other nursing professorships but this means having the necessary
academic credentials. The time pressures on current OH course leaders
that preclude doctorates and research will also impede their rise to the
highest and most prominent academic positions. How do we improve this?
