Thanks for this Paul. How do you monitor whether the client actually
attends OHS? This is the problem we have!

Dear Rita and list,
We follow a similar process. If the candidate is symptom free
according
to their declaration, they are usually health cleared on the condition
that they attend OH within the first 2 weeks of commencement. HR and
their manager are informed. If they have symptoms, they must not start
until cleared by OH.
If they break this condition, they may be suspended until they have
been appropriately screened. Naturally this does not occur often.
We are implementing the NICE guielines at present including chest
x-rays and interferon-gamma testing where indicated.
Best wishes
Paul

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any advice relating to follow-up of new staff working
in a Trust who come from high risk areas for TB?
Within my work area, if we screen someone from, say, Pakistan where
there is a high risk of exposure to TB, and the individual is not
coming
to the UK until the day before the post begins, we complete a TB
questionnaire over the phone pre-employment and sign the person fit
for
the post with conditions. The conditions are that the individual
attends
OHS on their first working day so that we can assess their TB status
(Mantoux test, scar check etc.).
We rely heavily on the individual attending on their first day, but
naturally some fail to attend at all!
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks, everyone.
Rita
