The (U-Th)/He Laboratory in the Department of Geology at the University of
Kansas invites applications for a laboratory manager or technician with
experience in geochemistry or inorganic chemistry. The appointment will
begin on June 1, 2006, with a later starting date possible. The successful
applicant will work primarily as part of a team of faculty and students in
the KU (U-Th)/He thermochronology laboratory. Duties include maintaining
the noble gas laboratory, microscopic sample preparation, operation of
automated noble gas extraction line, clean room wet chemistry, and
preparation of ICP-MS samples for isotopic analysis. The laboratory
technician is also expected to work with students, faculty and outside
users. Full-time funding for the position is provided through a NSF-IF
technician grant. A M.S. degree in geology, chemistry, or closely related
field is required by the time of appointment. This is 12-month laboratory
manger/technician position. Salary range $33,000-$35,000. Reappointment
beyond one year is continent upon satisfactory performance and external
funding.
