a brief aside:
white cube / black box / blue ship? i love it!
is this some deliberate mis-transcription of yours? i guess the
expression 'blue chip galleries', in the 80s before the crash, must
have meant just those galleries in new york which offered high returns
on investments. funny because one wouldn't normally think of that
mercantile association as regards the museum, or even most art
galleries nowadays. so 'blue chip' is in fact the wrong expression for
any of us to use in relation to the gallery/museum and especially in
relation to media art.
the 'blue ship' as a description of the museum in relation to media art
is better, as it rightly suggests the long time it takes for an ocean
liner / cargo ship to change directions, even slightly. it's certainly
better to be working on the blue ship than on the white star liner (aka
the titanic).
