Dear colleagues,
The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII, www.climate-insurance.org)
cordially invites you to attend a workshop on “Climate Insurance,” on Thursday
the 31st of August, 2006. The workshop is part of the International Disaster
Reduction Conference to be held next week in Davos, Switzerland (www.davos2006.ch).
The workshop aims to foster dialogue about
• specific experiences with risk finance mechanisms designed to manage impacts
of climate change,
• challenges and opportunities involved in using insurance-related mechanisms,
and the barriers that need to be addressed if these options are to become more
viable,
• concrete next steps to further explore climate-related insurance mechanisms
The workshop will complement a preceding session on innovative insurance
solutions for risk reduction. Following the MCII workshop audience members and
expert panellists an expert panel discussing the specific products, experiences,
and needs of end-users related specifically to climate insurance. Insurance and
reinsurance experts will comment on available instruments for climate-related
risk management. The expert round will discuss currently available tools,
experiences, and next steps.
