1. Natural Environment Research Council - Research Fellowships
To provide opportunities for outstanding environmental scientists to
devote their time to research. Applicants must not hold a permanent
academic position at the time of application. Two types of fellowships;
Postdoctoral Research Fellowships for early career development awards of
up to 3 years and Advanced Research Fellowships for early to mid career
awarded for up to five years.

2. Royal Society - Research Grants (Sciences)
Provides "seed corn" funding for new projects of timeliness and promise
initiated by young scientists at an early stage of their career or by

3. Royal Society - University Research Fellowships
To provide outstanding scientist, who should have the potential to become
leaders in their chosen field, with the opportunity to build an
independent research career. Funding for 5 years in the first instance, to
cover the research fellow's salary costs and research expenses using the

4. Leverhulme Trust - Research Fellowships
Provides research expenses over and above normal living costs and /or
provides a contribution towards reasonable replacement costs or loss of
