Dear John,
Thanks for the information about the Disaster Reduction Gateway, which looks
great.
As you know, we are organizing a major international conference in
Davos this year, the International Disaster Reduction Conference the last week
of August. More information is on our website www.davos2006.ch. Not unlike
your gateway, a central objective of IDRC 2006 is to bring the disaster
reduction community together to discuss initiative and expand knowledge about
measures to reduce risk. The flyer for the conference is attached here for
your information.
It would be very good to have the Benfield Hazard Research Centre as a
collaborator for this conference--as organizers of a special session
(highlighting your own work, for example), or collaborators in some other way.
I have copied this email to the conference secretariat ([log in to unmask]), as
well as to the conference chairman Dr. Walter Ammann. In your response to this
email, could you tell us whether and how you might see Benfield playing a role
in the upcoming IDRC 2006? Also, in the spirit of taking a mile when offered
an inch, might we possibly post an announcement of the conference at the
disaster reduction gateway web site?
Warm regards,
Koko Warner
