University of Ulm, Germany
PhD position in Theoretical Chemistry
Nachwuchsgruppe Theorie innerhalb des SFB 569
Applications are invited for a PhD position in the field of theoretical chemistry applied to
nanostructures, starting in April 2006 or as soon afterwards.
The work will involve research into the development of new theoretical and computational
methods for describing the quantum vibrational dynamics of nano-scale molecules and molecules
adsorbed on surfaces. Further information is available at: http://www.uni-ulm.de/sfb569-n1/
index.html. The project is financed by a grant awarded by the German Research Foundation
(DFG) and will be supervised by Dr David M. Benoit.
Candidates should have recently obtained, or expect to obtain a 1st or upper 2nd class Honours
degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline and have an interest in
implementing theoretical concepts as computer programs.
The project will be for a maximum of three years. The salary is set in accordance with the German
public-service pay scale 3/4 BAT IIa (approx. Euro 16,000 P.A. after tax)
The University of Ulm aims to increase the representation of women in research and the teaching
profession and would therefore expressly encourage qualified female scientists to apply.
All enquiries and applications (including a curriculum vitae and the names, telephone numbers
and e-mail addresses of two academic referees) should be sent to:
