A PhD position is available at the University of Lille in the framework of
the Marie Curie action "TOols and TEchniques for a Changing ATmosphere
(TOTECAT): innovative approach on studying environmentally important
questions"
It concerns laboratory studies of heterogeneous tropospheric chemistry.
This project will be devoted to laboratory studies of the interactions of
gaseous pollutants (NOx, SO2, O3, volatile organic compounds) with mineral
particles.
This project will be conducted in three concerted steps:
- Firstly, the candidate will participate to the development and use
of an aerosol flow reactor allowing to study the influence of the
particles on the gas-phase composition (uptake kinetics, identification
and/or quantification of products) using analytical techniques such as
absorption spectroscopy and mass spectrometry,
- Secondly, the influence of the gas-phase composition on the
reactivity of the individual particles will be addressed (reaction
mechanisms, identification and/or quantification of products) at the
microscopic level using microanalytical and imaging techniques such as
analytical electronic (SEM-EDS, TEM-EDS), FTIR and Raman microprobes
combined with appropriate chemometric data processing,
- Thirdly, for selected systems, the studies will be undertaken
using a large volume atmospheric chamber.
