The Combustion Chemistry Department seeks a postdoctoral appointee to carry
out fundamental experimental investigations of ignition chemistry at
elevated pressures (10–100 atm). Interrogation of transient intermediate
species in laser-initiated reactions will be probed by optical and sampling-
based methods. Some experiments may be conducted at the Advanced Light
Source (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), using a newly developed
photoionization mass spectrometer. The postdoc will design and execute
high-pressure chemical kinetics experiments under the principal
investigator’s direction.
Required qualifications include a PhD in chemistry, physics or closely
related field; demonstrated ability in fundamental research, as evidenced
by publication record and presentations; and experience with laser
spectroscopy, photoionization mass spectrometry, or related detection
methods.
Expertise in high-pressure chemical kinetics or gas dynamics is very
strongly desired. Knowledge of combustion chemistry and molecular
spectroscopy is desired.
The annual salary for this position is $72,100.
Located in Livermore, a bustling Northern California city with a “small,
hometown feel,” we enjoy close proximity to San Francisco, Silicon Valley,
