School of Chemistry
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow is required in the School of Chemistry within the research group of Dr Tim Wright.
The position is to work on REMPI, LIF and ZEKE studies of metal-containing molecules and complexes. The successful candidate is expected to have prior knowledge of molecular beams, laser spectroscopy and preferably metal ablation. There is the opportunity to incorporate a reflectron mass spectrometer as part of the project, and perform infrared absorption experiments, using metal cation fragmentation as a signature of the absorption.
Candidates should have a good standard of English.
There may also be the opportunity in the project to work on an ion trap system and a double-focussing ZAB spectrometer in collaboration with Professor A. J. Stace's group. In addition, there will be the possibility of performing ab initio and DFT calculations, although the main duties are laboratory based.
Salary will be within the range £23,457 - £28,850 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This post is available from 1st August 2006 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of one year initially, but it is expected to extend this to two years by mutual consent.
