University of Birmingham
School of Chemistry
Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Developing Quantum Dynamics for Large Systems
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the group of
Dr. Graham Worth in the school of chemistry, Birmingham University. The
project is to develop a quantum dynamics method and apply it to water-protein
scattering. The project is the CCP6 flagship project, and will be run in
collaboration with Dr. A.J.H.M. Meijer at Sheffield University. CCP6 is a
collaboration of British researchers in quantum dynamics calculations, aiming
to provide essential software for the science community (see www.ccp6.ac.uk
for further details).
The successful applicant will implement a novel algorithm into the MCTDH
program suitable for treating polyatomic systems. This program, a quantum
dynamics program used by a number of research groups, is written mostly in
Fortran, and knowledge of this language would be an advantage. The program
will then be used to study the scattering of water molecules off a protein in
the gas phase, a process for which experimental data is available.
Applicants should have a first degree in chemistry or physics and have
achieved or submitted a thesis for the award of a relevant PhD in chemistry,
physics or a related subject. Computing skills and experience in program
development are important.
The post is available from 1 January 2007 for a period of 3 years. Starting
salary £23,457 per annum.
Closing date: 30 November 2006
