Dear Sheila,
It is good to hear from you.
Things have been bad here, but I feel much better now I have a
plan. This whole School is closing and my dept and job go with it.
The alternative, generic jobs aren't my sort of thing. So I am leaving
here in September. I may well get a job with another university for a
year after that, which will enable me to finish supervising my
remaining research students. If I don't get such a job I will retire
and finish off supervising by arrangements with colleagues. This
wasn't quite how I planned to end my career, but it feels OK now.
How are you? Have you been a professor for long, or are
congratulations in order?
Best Wishes,
Mavis
