Subject: Tool for researching midwives satisfaction etc
Dear Colleagues,
I have the great pleasure of managing a stand alone, midwifery led,
women centred maternity service which offers one to one care throughout
the woman's childbearing experience, up to three weeks post natal.
There was enormous negativity from some of our medical (and midwifery
and nursing) colleagues when the service was first set up a year ago.
That means the pressure and need to prove the worth of this service has
been high for the midwives and the health service.
The midwives who work here have transformed from 'med-wives', working
shifts in a fragmented model to midwives, working one to one, with all
the dimensions of that way of working, with the women over the last
year.
The midwives are happy and tell me they love their job! The woman are
happy and say so in many ways. It seems that now, after a year, it is
a wonderful time to do a questionnaire with the midwives about their
changing role and their percpeptions/satisfactions/problems etc.
Does anyone have a tool that they have used and found effective for
measuring the kinds of factors I have mentioned, plus family time, time
to self, exercise, nutrition etc aspects and others I may not have
mentioned?
I look forward to any ideas you may have.
warmly, Carolyn
