CALL FOR PAPERS
The EU/MEeting 2006
The Seventh EU/MEeting on Adaptive, Self-Adaptive,
and Multi-Level Metaheuristics
16-17 November 2006, Malaga (Spain)
http://eume06.lcc.uma.es
===================================================================
Topics
------
One of the keystones in practical metaheuristic problem-solving is
the fact -repeatedly shown in both theory and practice- that tuning
the optimization technique to the problem under consideration is
determinant for achieving top performance. This tuning/customization
is usually on the hands of the algorithm designer, and despite some
methodological attempts, it largely remains an scientific art. A
longly pursued goal in the field of metaheuristics has been
transferring a part of this customization effort to the algorithm
itself, endowing it with smart mechanisms for self-adapting to the
problem. While some theoretical results set out limitations on the
general robustness of such mechanisms, their usefulness in specific
problem classes has been verified. The objective of the meeting is
giving researches and practitioners the opportunity to discuss
recent advances in all topics related to adaptation and self-adaptation
in metaheuristic optimization. This includes (but is not limited to):
- self-adjusting the parameters of the algorithm,
- self-adapting the functioning of internal components (e.g., reproductive
operators in evolutionary algorithms, neighborhood structures in
local-search techniques, etc.),
- evolving/adjusting the representation of solutions,
- on-line learning about the search landscape, and use of this
information for guiding the search,
- use of human-based components, such as user-guided search,
interactive optimization, etc.,
- multi-level metaheuristics in which an upper heuristic layer controls
the application of some underlaying heuristics, e.g., hyperheuristics,
- evolving/self-adapting search strategies, e.g., multimeme algorithms,
co-evolving memetic algorithms, etc.,
- theoretical analysis of self-adaptation mechanisms.
Submission
----------
Researchers and practitioners working in the topics of the meeting are
invited to submit a proposal (in PDF or postscript) of 4 pages by e-mail to
eume06 at lcc.uma.es
Add 5 keywords and an abstract of approximately 10 lines. All margins
must be around 2.5 cm / 1 inch, and each page must contain only one column,
with single spaced lines. Use Times new roman (or similar) for writing,
with 11pt in size. Figures and tables must be directly included in the body
of the text.
Accepted papers will be assigned to a technical session. After the meeting,
authors will be invited to to prepare a full paper, that will be subjected
to a regular refereeing process for publication in a top international
journal. Informations, guidelines, etc will be soon available on the
website.
