THE NINTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE on
PARALLEL PROBLEM SOLVING FROM NATURE
PPSN IX
Reykjavik, Iceland,
September 9 - 13, 2006.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Ninth International Conference on Parallel Problem Solving
from Nature (PPSN IX) will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland on
9-13 September 2006. This meeting will bring together an international
community from academia, government, and industry interested in
algorithms suggested by the unifying theme of natural computing.
Natural Computing is the study of computational systems that use
ideas and get inspiration from natural systems, including biological,
ecological, physical, chemical, and social systems. It is a fastgrowing
interdisciplinary field in which a range of techniques and methods
are studied for dealing with large, complex, and dynamic problems.

PPSN IX will showcase a wide range of topics in Natural Computing
including,
but not restricted to: Evolutionary Computation, Quantum Computation,
Molecular Computation, Neural Computation, Artificial Life,
Swarm Intelligence, Artificial Ant Systems, Artificial Immune Systems,
Membrane Computing, Self- Organising Systems, Emergent Behaviours,
and Applications to Real-World Problems.

The conference emphasises original theories and novel applications of
natural computing. Researchers, practitioners and students from
academia and industry are invited to submit their original papers
to this conference.

PAPER SUBMISSION
Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original results in
the field of natural computing by 27 March 2006. The format should
follow Springer Verlag LNCS style, with no more than 10 pages.
Only electronic submissions will be considered. Papers in postscript
or PDF files can from January 2006 be submitted through the
conference homepage: http://ppsn2006.raunvis.hi.is

The conference program committee will welcome papers addressing
fundamental
issues (e.g. theoretical studies, algorithm design and implementation,
representation and operators, ...) as well as papers dealing with
real-world
applications, providing these papers either exhibit outstanding
performance
in contrast to other techniques or address real problems of significant
importance. Authors are also strongly encouraged to provide pointers to
source code (especially for novel techniques and algorithms) and/or data
sets.
However, this is certainly not mandatory, especially when commercial
considerations are involved.

The whole review process relies heavily on electronic means: the
organizers
hence strongly enforce electronic submissions of Postscript or PDF
files.
All accepted papers will be published in a Springer volume LNCS
(Lecture Notes in Computer Science, see also the LNCS Online Digital
Library).

PAPER PRESENTATION
Following the now well-established tradition of PPSN conferences, all
accepted
papers will be presented during small poster sessions of about 15-20
papers.
Each session will contain papers from a wide variety of topics, and will
begin
by a plenary quick overview of all papers in that session by a major
researcher
in the field. Past experiences have shown that such presentation format
led
to more interactions between participants and to a deeper understanding
of
the papers. All accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings.

REVIEW PROCESS
All papers will be reviewed by at least three independent reviewers,
strongly emphasizing originality and reproducibility of results
(if applicable). In an effort to enforce the quality of the review
process, papers will be assigned
to reviewers based on their choice among the abstracts of all papers of
their
area of interest. The final acceptance decisions will be made by the
program
chairs, after an electronic discussion with the reviewers in case they
disagree
on a particular paper.

WORKSHOPS AND TUTORIALS
